THE ROUTE

While I write this, Peter and Simon are packing the bike back into pieces into the carton. Tomorrow early morning we’re off to Bangkok.

But first I want to give you an insight in the route.
Signature Simon. (He spend his whole Easter Holiday’s 1 hour a day to trail his father’s route on Google). Thank you Simon, this is a great present!
Must say he was effectively supported by a brand new Garmin, donated by Peter’s bike buddy Thanh and our Miss Thu, who searched across the three countries for all possible stay-over’s. Another great present!

Back to the challenge.  The distance between Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City is 1038 km.  Peter intends to do this in 9 days and he will take 2 times a ‘vehicle’ to bring him out the centre of the big cities Bangkok and Phnom Penh (to avoid uninteresting biking and the risk to get hopelessly lost from the start).

day 1 : Our friends Ing & Steven have organized a good luck ceremony in a Pagoda
Peter is escorted the first 30 km by friends from the centre of Bangkok until the Golf
course (warming up). After Lunch and the last goodbye he will go - by vehicle and 77 km
cheating - to the real start : Ko Chan
day 2 : Ko Chan - Klong Pla Kang  = 75.51 km
day 3 : Klong Pla Kang - B.M. House = 135.31 km
day 4 : B.M. House - Mairood = 109.61 km
day 5 : Mairood - Ta Tai = 70.64 km
day 6 : Ta Tai - Kaaong = 129.25 km
day 7 : Kaaong - Phnom Penh = 141.28 km
day 8 : Phnom Penh - Binh Hiep border = 157.71 km
day 9 : Binh Hiep border - Ho Chi Minh City = 110.91 km

Oh my God.

Peter’s Sunday’s bike buddies Simon, Erik & Erik & Eric, Jean-Luc, Steven, & ... will pick him up at the border in Bien Hiep and escort him for the last 110 km home.
Arrival is organized in La Plancha and we expect them around 5-6 pm, 6th of May.
If you’re around, be invited to join in the cheering!

  2. The last 4 days (6,7,8,9) seem to be unbalanced and stressful in comparing with the first 4. Anyway, take care and have a safe trip.
